When my alarm goes off at 5:40 a.m., I’m thinking about very little except my upcoming cup of coffee (which, unfortunately, won’t come until after my 6 a.m. barre class…). Though I lay out my clothes the night before and stumble my way through getting ready, there’s one extra step I never miss. I wouldn’t be me without a touch of sparkle, which is why my day starts with athleisure and my signature diamond studs.
Jewelry is a part of who I am and how I express that to the world — meaning you’ll rarely see me wearing the same collection of pieces two days in a row, much less throughout the whole day. Like Barbie, I dress first for fashion, second for the occasion, and rarely for comfort!
The art of the mix is all about pairing basics and longtime favorites with statement pieces… So let’s dive into a day in my life, jewels-wise.
Redefining "Basics"
Adding Sparkle to Your Day
After my morning workout, I run home for a shower, a cup of coffee (my coffee maker is my favorite item in my home), and some email catch-up. Then, it’s time to build my outfit for the day. With my diamond studs on, I layer in a few more faves: you’ll rarely find me without my favorite link bracelet, my custom pink sapphire tennis necklace, my engagement ring, and a few necklaces in constant rotation.
From there, I get crazy! Sometimes I pair colors based on my outfit, but sometimes I let things speak to me. There are no rules, and there’s no consequence for a look that doesn’t work — you can just try again tomorrow.
No matter what your daytime attire looks like, from business-professional to sweats at home, jewelry is the one opportunity we all have to get creative. For me, that means experimenting with bright colors, unexpected layers, and playful shapes.
Light Up the Night
Nighttime activities demand sparkle, whether you’re heading out on the town for date night or to a PTA meeting at school. (If you couldn’t already tell, I’m a firm believer that every single event is an opportunity to make a statement). As much as I like to try new things in my workday looks, the nighttime is when I truly go all out.
Case in point: I love to layer necklaces (you already know!), but I tend to gravitate toward hearts and chains. For a recent event, I decided to pair an Elizabeth Locke gambling coin pendant with turquoise beads. The result was different than my usual look — but I loved doing something out of my comfort zone.
